Happy Birthday to ME!!

Technically, my birthday is not until tomorrow, but I thought it would be fun to write about it anyway. My mom invited me to lunch at the bowling alley (where she bowls with her lady friends). I didn't expect much and before I know it my husband walks in, my dad is there, my sisters Amy & Katie show up, my little Ammon is there of course and my cute niece Zoie and before I know it all 100 ladies in the bowling alley turn around and start singing Happy Birthday.  I didn't know whether to cry or laugh but I was so emotional because I really do love my birthday. I hide it sometimes and act like I don't need anything or that I really don't care and that it is just another day. But this was definitely thought out and my mom and dad have always made our birthdays special. I can remember almost every birthday I ever had.  Especially, if you show me pictues I can tell you what we ate, what kind of cake it was and probably what I got for my birthday.

I remember turning 13 and getting all dressed up and feeling so pretty but only to be made fun of by my siblings, but I know now that is what happens to the oldest-we have to go through all the growing pains.

I remember turning 16 and getting a CTR ring for my birthday. I was so hoping for a car but was so overwhelmed with the beautiful gift that was again so thoughtfully thought out.

I remember turning 8 and wanting so desperately to decorate my cake. My dad gave in but I feel his pain now of wanting the cake to be perfect.

Every year while I lived at home my dad made our birthday cakes and every year I asked for a coconut cake.  They were the best.  We always went to Macayos' for our birthday dinner and they had the best chips and salsa.

As I got older my parents used to give me money but now the homemade cakes are my responsibility, and my husband usually spoils me by just letting me do my thing. But I am grateful that family still makes a big deal about my special day because if it were up to me I really wouldn't do anything.

When I was young mom always invited the neighborhood kids and we went to some park and had relay races. As I got older I always had softball practice or dance lessons.

I love my birthday. I was born on the Eides of March. The day Julius Caesar died. For some reason I love being on an important day. I have seen the Shakespeare play and as sad as it is, I like it.

So, Thank you for the memories and for all the many sweet gifts that have been given and for the thoughtfulness of them all.

Love,
Sadie P.
